Youthful Summer in the City

Over the past year, Youthful Cities has been investigating the skills youth need to succeed. It’s all part of DEVlab, a project funded by the Government of Canada and in partnership with Tamarack Institute. The goal? To develop dynamic, engaged, and vital young workforces in cities. As we analyze this data and build towards a Fall release, we’re uncovering some intriguing insights about Canada’s youth. This summer, we’re celebrating our youth collaborators by revealing sneak peeks into that data and creating programming to bring visibility to the challenges and strengths in major cities.

As part of the celebration, Youthful City teams from Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal are putting together a summer of programming for youth in across five core themes:

  1. Green Economy: Finding and preparing for youth jobs in this sector
  2. Skills mismatch and future of work: Advocating
  3. Commuting:
  4. Organizational culture:
  5. Housing

In collaboration with our partners, our YC Calgary city combines an asset-mapping tour of Kensington with a zine-making workshop on affordability and livability.  Engage at the intersection of commuting, affordability, and city economy as we share how places define how and where we live, work, and play. It’s a great chance for young people to:

  • Explore and celebrate the spaces that make Calgary great
  • Share your unique perspectives on urban development
  • Connect with peers and learn from other young changemakers
  • Contribute to discussions on youth support and affordability solutions
  • Express yourselves creatively through zine-making

This event is open to youth ages 15-29 and each participant receives  a $25 honoraria.
